GO VOTE ON THE STRIKE

Posted by Skrud at Wednesday, March 9th 2005 at 2:13pm

It seems that because of people on both campuses, a quorum is certain. This means that if you don’t want a strike, go vote. Mind you, there’s no way we can muster the numbers to avoid a strike, but we can try. The problem is that while the motion is for a one day strike, it can be amended for an indefinite strike. That is going to fuck us sideways. So go vote.

    Wow. That’s fucked, man… :P

And that’s why I hate hippies. Stupid hippies with their hemp… and their pot-smoking, veganism, not showering and smelling bad… AND THEIR STUPID PROTESTS THAT GET NOWHERE!

If you guys like being bent over and fucked by Jean Charest and the Liberals than you shouldn’t participate in the strike. However instead of becoming more like the rest of Canada or the U.S. that has unacessible higher education I’m going to join the strike and other universities to make a difference because even if you don’t care that low income students will not be able to get of finish a university degree others do. And by pretending it doesn’t affect you cause you don’t have loans and bursaries is ignorant because this is the first step to raising tuition as it has been done time again across Canada. Wake up, education is not a privelege it’s a right.

Listen, in Quebec we have it GREAT when it comes to education. A low tuition and a kick ass loans and bursaries program. Quebec’s dept needs to be settled at some point in time. Congradulation to Jean Charest for having the Balls to make people unhappy with him to DO THE RIGHT THING! PAY OFF THE DEPT. Look at Alberta, think the Government won’t do stuff to benefit their population? Of course! They have already anounced several tax brakes.

University is a privilige not a RIGHT. If you can’t afford it you still have options. Get a job and work during and after school. Or take a loan. Enter the Quebec government, “Here’s money, but pay us back later for it.” They are still giving people the benefit of a higher education, who can’t afford it.

What isn’t fair is for people like me who work instead of taking out a loan and hippie activists complain and get FREE money instead of earning it. There is too much abuse of the bursaries program. Too many people getting them when they are not deseving. This is what is being cut. The people who REALLY need it will still get money. The rest, take a loan or work. Simple.

Working effects your performance at school and for people who get the government to pick up their tab and sit at home and study instead of working to pay for their education have an advantage in University. I say level the playing field. If you don’t wanna work now, you’ll have to work later to pay off the money you owe to the Government.

One more time God Job Mr. Jean Charest. You probly won’t be re-elected but you did the right thing. Too bad people just can’t see your Bigger Picture. The Liberals always get themselves in trouble by doing the right thing. Quebec could have seperated or many busineses could have left Quebec if it wern’t for the Sponsorship thing. But Quebec voters are yet proving themselves again that they are idiots for voting in some Bloc piece of shit to spend money the government doesn’t have.

Everyone would like to see taxes go down. This is one way about it. Your years in School do not equate to your lifetime of paying taxes.

So let’s go out there and show them that free loading is no longer an option. After all who is for the strike? People who have bursaries, thus have nothing to loose if an indeffinite strike goes into affect, because they didn’t pay for their tuition.

Strike? I say screw that, why would I throw away my money so someone can get more for free?

Everyone needs to vote. People will show up no mater what so NO votes MUST show up.

Nice text Jonathan, I am against the student strike for the same reasons. These socialist-communist students do not seem to realise that money does not grow in trees. Furthermore, Quebec has the lowest education fees in North America. I am a student myself, I study at Champlain College and if I did not have enough money to study, I would simply work (as I do now) or take a loan. Think about it… what is a 20 000$ debt when you get out of university? Unless you are studying in arts or something, that debt is gonna be paid pretty fast once you join the work market. I am glad Champlain has not joined this ridiculous strike.

Good to hear that Champlain is still at work like students should be, and not spending their time blocking off highways. Of course, maybe if the “protestors” stayed *in* school, they’d learn some respect for the public.

To the bunch of individualists who are against the strike: YOU NEED TO MOVE OUT OF YOUR PARENTS BASEMENT. I’m tired of fucking moaners saying shit like “strikes are for hippies”. I’m no hippie, i don’t smoke pot and I DON’T PLAY FUCKING TAM-TAM. Strikes are for people who don’t like to get fucked in the ass and are ready to stand up to their opinions when they get pissed of by a pro-corporate right-wingt government.

If you are against the strike you are either 1) FOR the government cuts, in which case no further discussion is necessary, for you are so much of an asshole that you shouldn’t even be allowed to vote or 2) your are against the government cuts but are too much of a lazy individualist to do something about it, saying non-sense bullshit like “if i wait and do nothing for a while maybe charest will wake up one morning in his fucking westmount villa and change his mind”. i this case you must still believe in santa claus and shouldn’t be allowed to vote either.

Not everybody will get out of university with a salary of 60k per year, and this year my debt will go up by three grand just because of the cuts. Fuck that why should i repay 3000$+ so fucking corporations and rich people can pay less taxes (Charest agenda)? And before any of you morons moan “just work”, i have two fucking jobs, and no i don’t own a car, and no i don’t own a cell phone, and no i don’t get drunk at daytona beach two times a year.

  8. OMFG said:

oh, and no i’m not into heroin and/or hookers. thanks for asking.

Thanks a lot for your reply OMFG, if that is your real name. It is not my problem if you did not think about your financial situation before moving out of your “parent’s basement” as you say so. Maybe if you would of stayed a few more years with your parents you would not be stuck with a debt of 3K? Perhaps if you would think ahead you would not be in such a miserable situation now? Do you actually realise that 3000$ is nothing nowadays and that Quebec has the lowest tuition fees? Perhaps you do not since you actually approve the strike. Think about it, you cannot invest somewhere without cutting somewhere else, thus meaning that if the governement invests more in education, they will have to raise taxes. Unless you plan on living your life on welfare, a tax cut will compensate for higher education fees. Or perhaps you rather we keep tuition fees ridiculously low so that the Americans and Ontarians can get educated here and leave to get better wages afterwards? Think about it, Quebec’s future is at stake here.
